Mirror Selection: A Guide To Picking The Perfect Bathroom Mirror

Mirror Selection: A Guide To Picking The Perfect Bathroom Mirror Mirror Selection: A Guide To Picking The Perfect Bathroom Mirror

We have all experienced the feeling of utter disappointment when you enter a bathroom with no mirror or a bathroom with a mirror that barely passes as one. The bottom line is that no bathroom is complete without a decent mirror.

Selecting a bathroom mirror can be the most fun part of a bathroom renovation and an easy DIY to upgrade your home. We’re here to show you all your options so you can choose the perfect mirror for your bathroom.

Mirrors VS Shaving Cabinets

Depending on the size of your bathroom and the storage available, you have the option to select from a regular mirror or a mirror-shaving cabinet. If you’re in need of extra storage, a shaving cabinet is the perfect choice. Offering that extra bit of functionality, a shaving cabinet is perfect when sharing a bathroom, ensuring everyone has space for their things. Another perk of having a shaving cabinet is that your bench space can remain clear and tidy for when guests come over. You can also match your mirror cabinet with your bathroom vanity.

Mirrors on the other hand don’t offer any storage. However, mirrors are perfect for those seeking a minimalist aesthetic. If you have a larger bathroom vanity, you don’t need to spend more on a shaving cabinet when a simple mirror will do the trick!

Both mirrors and mirror cabinets offer different colours, sizes and shapes, allowing you to bring your style to life. Ultimately, this choice is highly dependent on the amount of storage you require in your bathroom and how much room you have.

How To Select Shape, Colour & Size

There are various mirror shapes to choose from, the most common are circle, square, pill and arch. A way to choose what shape will work best for you is to look around at what shapes are already being used within your bathroom. Are you using square line or curved tapware? Identifying this can make this task that much easier.

The thing about mirrors is that they can be moulded to suit any style. You can create a traditional bathroom design using circle or square mirrors or for a more modern aesthetic, arch and pill-shaped mirrors are currently trending. The shape you choose can also depend on the space available. When you need multiple mirrors, curved mirrors work best, when you only need one mirror, one large square mirror works best.

Some mirrors come with a coloured edge. Finishes include brushed gold, chrome, black and more. It is best to pair this finish with the colour tapware you are using in your bathroom. This will create a unified look within your bathroom and tie everything together. When selecting the colour of your shaving cabinet, it is common practice to simply match the colour of the cabinet to that of your bathroom vanity, again creating a cohesive look within the space.

Standard mirror sizes are 600mm, 900mm, 1200mm and 1500mm, usually aligning with vanity size. Depending on the space available, if you have a double vanity, you can opt for one big 1500mm mirror or two smaller 600mm mirrors.

Additional Features To Consider

At Cook & Bathe, we offer mirrors with additional features, providing you with different ways to upgrade your bathroom experience and add that luxury feel to your home.

Some features include a Bluetooth connection and USB port allowing you to listen to music and charge your phone while you get ready in the morning. Another popular feature is demisters which stop your mirror from fogging up. Lastly and probably the most common feature that is sought out when selecting a mirror is adjustable lighting. A mirror with a dimmable lit edge with warm and cool settings is highly sought after as it enhances your daily routine at the touch of a button.
